Part 1…Why Do High Carbohydrate diets And Low Fat Diets Make You Fatter?

What type of diet is the fastest way to burn fat? High carbohydrate diets and low fat diets have been the accepted diet of choice over the last 15 years. We’ve been told to eat large amounts of carbohydrates and avoid fats. These diets claim to burn the fat and improve health. Americans have been going crazy for breads, cereals, and pastas.

People have been getting fatter eating fewer fats. Heart disease and diabetes is at an all time high. High carbohydrate low fat diets are being proven to be hazardous to your health.

What makes you fat?

Many people have been told that eating fat makes you fat. But the truth is an excess amount of carbohydrates in your diet will make you fat. Your body has only so much capacity to store extra carbs and it easily changes an excess amount of carbohydrates into extra body fat.

Your body’s metabolism will slow down when you restrict too many calories making it very difficult to lose weight. Eating fewer calories does not mean you will lose more weight. Low calorie high carbohydrate diets will slow your system down that burns calories, and sometimes it will come to a complete stop. This is commonly called a plateau.

Can you see how high carbohydrates diets have caused most people to fail?

It causes low energy, feeling hungry faster and constantly feeling deprived. What happens after this? People will go off their diets and put the weight right back and more.

The right proportions of protein, complex carbohydrates and fat in meals is the answer to losing weight and keeping it off.

So what is a carbohydrate exactly?

Most think of breads, pastas and sweets. Well fruits, veggies, pastas, breads and sweets are all types of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are various forms of sugar bonded together. The healthy kinds of carbohydrates found in whole grain foods, veggies and fresh fruits are what our bodies need.

Our bodies use the form of sugar called glucose for the main source of energy. Did you know that the brain uses 2/3 of the present carbohydrates in the bloodstream when you are resting? Your body will continue to take the carbohydrates and change them into glucose.

So what happens in our body when we eat too many carbohydrates?

For carbohydrates that are not used our body stores, in a form called glycogen, in our muscles and liver. Our bodies’ capacity to store carbohydrates is only about 3 to 4 hundred grams of carbohydrates. This is about 2 cups of rice.

Once the storage capacity is full only one thing happens next. It is changed into fat and stored in our fatty tissue. To sum it up, carbohydrates can be fat free but when there is too much it will end up as extra fat.

Another interesting fact about high carbohydrate diets is that it usually creates a quick rise in the blood sugar. Without getting too technical when this happens we will create a hormone insulin which helps lower the sugar level. It tells the body to store any excess carbohydrates as fat. It also tells the body NOT to let go of any of the fat. A high insulin level will make you stay fat.

Eating high carbohydrates will make it very difficult to get your body to burn the fat and lose that weight not to mention improve your health.

A high blood sugar will be followed eventually by a low blood sugar level. This will cause you to be hungrier, crave sugary snacks and lead to eating more carbohydrates.

What a vicious cycle.
